Let’s fight for #FairAirportPSC
Effective July 1, 2018, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) increased the Passenger Service Charge (PSC) for passengers travelling beyond Asean from RM50 to RM73 per person. We opposed this increase by not collecting the additional RM23 from consumers.
Charges paid by passengers at klia2 for flights to outside of Asean has more than doubled (>100%) since 2016.
Passenger Service Charge (PSC) rates at klia2:
Up to 31 Dec 2016 - RM32
From 1 Jan 2017 - RM50
From 1 July 2018 - RM73 (AirAsia had been collecting the previous rate of RM50 up until 8 Aug 2019)
From 9 August 2019, AirAsia will be collecting the full RM73 PSC levied by MAHB under protest, following a recent court ruling.
However, we maintain that consumers should not be charged high PSC because:
klia2 was designed and operated as a low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT). This is why we think you should not have to pay the same PSC as the far more well-equipped and luxurious KLIA terminal. PSC has always been lower at klia2, up until 2018 when the rate was increased and equalised for reasons unknown.
We believe that high PSC stifles tourism, hampers economic growth and makes Malaysia considerably less attractive to visitors compared to other destinations.
While we may be forced to collect the increased PSC imposed by MAHB, let us stand together and object to this unreasonable rate hike. Our message is simple: high PSC is an unfair burden on consumers. Let’s make our voices heard.
