AirAsia India strengthens leadership team, appoints Sanjay Kumar as COO
Bengaluru, November 21, 2018: AirAsia India has appointed Mr. Sanjay Kumar as its Chief Operating Officer (COO) with effect from December 03, 2018. In the new role, he will be responsible for commercial/ operations of the airline. He will be instrumental in shaping next phase growth at AirAsia India and will be reporting to the newly appointed CEO & MD, Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran.
Mr.Kumar, a seasoned professional in the Indian civil aviation industry, has over 25 years of experience in the airline industry across functions like Business Planning, Strategy, Network Development, Distribution and Sales, Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations. He comes with valuable experience in the low-cost airline business model and scaling-up start-up airlines to market leadership positions. Sanjay’s previous assignment was with IndiGo where he worked as Chief Commercial officer.

Mr. Kumar holds a master’s degree in Economics from Meerut University and an MBA from the Institute of Productivity and Management, Meerut. In the past, he has worked with Air Sahara, Royal Airlines and its low-cost carrier, SpiceJet and IndiGo.
AirAsia India is in the process of strengthening its management team. Close to the announcement of Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran as the Managing Director of the airline, Sanjay’s announcement is the second powerful hire by the airline in its top management. A joint venture between the Tata Sons and AirAsia Investments, AirAsia India is focused on expanding its presence in the Indian aviation market by providing affordable airfares and improved customer experience. The airline recently announced the induction of its 19th aircraft in its fleet.
