SYDNEY, 1 May 2018 – AirAsia, Australia’s Official Airline of Surfing, has announced changes to its baggage policy as part of its partnership with Surfing Australia and state surfing bodies.

From today, surfers from across Australia will be able to travel with their surfboard to and from surfing hot spots such as Indonesia, Thailand, the Maldives, Japan and the Philippines, at no additional cost.

AirAsia X Group Head of Commercial Barry Klipp said, “Today’s announcement demonstrates the commitment from both AirAsia and AirAsia X to making low-cost travel a reality for Australians, in particular those who are surfing enthusiasts.

“We’ve made these changes in recognition of what we know makes Australia so unique – its passion for aquatic activities, such as surfing.”

Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said, “For the waves of surfers who head to South East Asia each year, the changes to AirAsia’s baggage policy was a welcomed benefit for the surfing community.

“When it comes to travelling with your surfboard, baggage policies differ between airlines and often come with additional costs. This initiative would provide surfers with peace-of-mind when it comes to embarking on their next surfing adventure.”

The new policy comes into effect today, and is valid until further notice for all passengers who depart to and from Australia on point to point and fly-thru bookings made at airasia.com
