IKHLAS extends a helping hand to flood-affected communities

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 January 2021 - IKHLAS continues its Sadaqah service ‘Give with IKHLAS’ by extending assistance to flood-affected communities on the East Coast to help them get back on their feet.

For this mission, IKHLAS headed to Kemaman and Dungun in Terengganu to assist over 200 families including numerous local livestock farmers, in collaboration with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) and non-governmental organisations such as Group Transformasi Ruminan (GTR) and community partner Zer0Hunger.

Each of the affected families received essentials such as pre-packaged meals, praying mats and amenities, clothing for children and adults, drinking water, face masks, hand sanitisers, dry food, cooking oil and more; while the livestock farming community in the affected areas received five (5) tonnes of cow bran and seventy (70) packs of medicine kits.

Ikhlas Kamarudin, Head of IKHLAS said, “Our heart goes out to those who are affected by the floods and we aim to help them as much as we can, especially now that waters have receded and it is time to rebuild. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all the government bodies and NGOs involved for working together with us to execute this crucial flood relief mission. We pray that all affected communities will be back on their feet in no time.”

IKHLAS started its first flood relief mission early January 2021 in Raub, Kuala Lipis, Jerantut and Chenor, Pahang with the distribution of essential items including dry food, retort meals, clothing, prayer mats, female sanitary products, child and adult diapers, face masks and hand sanitisers which supported over 400 families. The team also helped in cleaning surau and schools in the affected areas.

Even though a lot of assistance was provided to affected communities, much more needs to be done. The team will further continue its flood relief mission providing support in Kelantan and Johor in the coming weeks. The public can assist in the mission with cash donations via ikhlas.com. All donations collected through the ‘Give With IKHLAS’ Sadaqah service will be used to purchase essentials for the communities in need.

Since April 2020, the IKHLAS Sadaqah service has collected RM1.5 million through its digital donation drive ‘Give With IKHLAS’ and ‘IKHLAS For Sabah’, which has benefited over 19,000 families nationwide, including those most affected by the pandemic and floods.

IKHLAS is a line of business under airasia.com that mainly caters to Muslim communities around the world by providing unparalleled access to faith-based practices.
