KUALA LUMPUR, 14 December 2023 - AirAsia today celebrated the recent announcement of visa-free travel from India to Malaysia with grandeur ‒ announcing special promotional fares for a limited time only between the two countries.

Following the Malaysian government’s recent announcement, Indian citizens are now able to enjoy visa-free travel to Malaysia, a groundbreaking initiative that is sure to spur demand for travel to Malaysia.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in fostering stronger ties between the two nations, and to commemorate this, AirAsia announced steps to boost inter-country travel with a new route launch to Thiruvananthapuram (starting 21 February 2024) and special fares between Malaysia and India. This is in addition to AirAsia’s announcement of a significant increase in services between Malaysia and India, totalling an impressive 69 weekly flights starting in the first quarter of 2024, with up to 1.5 million seats per year.

From now till 24 December 2024, globe-trotters and adventure seekers can book flights to seven destinations in South India within AirAsia’s vast network for a very special promotional price. Fly to Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata and soon Thiruvananthapuram for only RM189* all-in one-way. Travellers from India looking to visit Malaysia, can fly direct to and from Kuala Lumpur from any of these routes for just INR4,999* and spread their wings to Malaysia’s other hotspots from the capital city. The travel period commences immediately and ends on 30 September 2024. Guests can now take advantage of these discounted fares to explore the rich cultural tapestry, breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cities that both countries have to offer.

His Excellency H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia commented: “We are happy to note that citizens of India can now travel to Malaysia visa-free, which will improve people-to-people connections. AirAsia is playing an important role by covering several destinations in India, thus enabling a seamless connection for visitors from Malaysia and India.”

Riad Asmat, AirAsia Malaysia CEO said: “The 30-day visa-free entry for Indian citizens to Malaysia is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year for us at AirAsia. We have always strived to enhance the regional connectivity between India and Malaysia ever since we launched our very first route to India in 2008. For this, we extend our humblest gratitude to the Malaysian government for this significant decision that will surely boost our local tourism and foster better cultural exchange.

“As we look to end 2023 on a high note and usher in the new year with promising beginnings for the travel sector, we are certain that this recent initiative will allow for more Indian travellers to visit Malaysia and beyond affordably ‒ a concept that was once a far-fetched dream for many. We look forward to working closely with the government and other stakeholders to further pivot Malaysia’s tourism scene to its fullest potential.”
