Top “workation” spots that inspire work-life balance

As a member of AirAsia’s Cabin Crew Department, I am used to having a workspace that offers a great view of the sky, surrounded by guests with happy smiles whom we safely fly. That was a typical working day before the pandemic hit. Undeniably, more than a year after, a lot of things have changed in our work set-up and environment. Frequency of flights have been significantly reduced and air travel is still finding its way to complete recovery.

Thankfully, AirAsia introduced me to a new role within the Communications and Public Affairs Department as the External Influencers Lead. Though most of us have been working in the corners of our own homes due to the various health restrictions which are aimed at reducing the number of COVID-19 infections, I am very fortunate that my new role allows me to still travel safely during location shoots with celebrities. The best part is that I get to bring out my creative side while traveling.

During this time, I’ve encountered and met people from different walks of life, who choose to work and enjoy their vacation at the same time; perhaps a quick escape from the stress that comes with the ongoing pandemic. Being able to work remotely is a chance for people to clear their heads and enjoy a change of scenery while working, and a chance for them to use their downtime to relax and explore, with peace of mind knowing that they are safe.

BORACAY

Benneth on a relaxing workation in Boracay

In one of my official work trips, I bumped into my college batchmate Benneth who is now a Loan and Broker Support Manager in a private company. She and her husband TJ, a sourcing officer from a different company, flew with AirAsia to Boracay and decided to stay until the end of May.

When asked what made them decide to stay on the island for nearly three months, Benneth said, “Aside from the stunning beaches, I feel very safe here. We’re able to do our work properly thanks to the stable internet connection, and we’re able to enjoy the plenty of activities the island has to offer right after working. It’s a complete package perfect for working individuals like us.”

Due to the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine within NCR Plus (Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal), only essential travel is allowed to and from Manila, though AirAsia flies to Boracay once a week to assist stranded leisure travelers who wish to fly home while commercial flights for leisure remain unavailable.

BOHOL

Home to the iconic Chocolate Hills and the world’s smallest primates, Bohol is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Philippines. From its pristine beaches and waterfalls, Bohol’s natural beauty never fails to stun me.

Aby Marano, a professional volleyball player and a newspaper columnist who recently had a business trip to Bohol last February is scheduled to fly back with AirAsia next month.

“Bohol is the ideal workation destination for me because of the scenery and relaxed environment; exactly what I need when writing a column. During my free time, I’m able to play volleyball with locals and friends who are living there.”

Workations can be a bit costly if not properly budgeted. That is why AirAsia offers amazingly low flight + hotel stay packages through SNAP, to take care of your workation dreams. Book from as low as PHP 3,088 per person.

CEBU

Cebu also has the best to offer when it comes to pleasing the senses. With its beautiful scenery and mouth-watering delicacies, you’ll have plenty to do (and eat) after that Zoom meeting or business proposal.

Known for its exceptional food, Cebu’s culinary landscape is diverse and unlike any other. Whether it’s a new concept restaurant around the metro, or a classic Cebu food spot, you’re sure to satisfy your cravings during your trip. Cebu will always be a destination worth traveling to even just to eat, and it has in fact attracted a lot of guests for that very reason.

From the recent data from health authorities, cases of COVID-19 in the province of Cebu have significantly decreased over the past weeks. With the heightened safety protocols in place, Cebu makes for a perfect workation destination.

While on workation, we must remember to keep ourselves safe and healthy. A proper diet, physical activity, adequate rest, and taking care of our mental health not only improves our overall health and wellness, but also makes us more resilient at this time of a pandemic. And while we are out and about, let’s always remember to wear a mask and face shield properly, wash and sanitize the hands often, and abide by the local regulations and safety protocols implemented by the LGUs. Tara, workation na! Enjoy your workation and let me know how it goes!
