Driving with Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak

Since airasia ride, the latest e-hailing service provider in town was launched barely a month ago, over 5,000 driver applications have been received including from prominent figures such as Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, who recently went behind the wheels to spend time understanding what it’s like to be in the shoes of an e-hailing driver for a day.

So on 31 Aug 2021, Datuk Seri Nazir set out on a mission to drive as many passengers as he could within a 4-hour period as an airasia ride driver and spend time with fellow Malaysians chatting about Merdeka, Malaysia, financial tips and reflecting on his father’s (our second Prime Minister, in case you don’t know) dreams for the country and the reality of today.

Also catch a special guest, AirAsia Group’s very own Executive Chairman, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun who managed to book Dato’ Sri Nazir as a driver for his ride home!

Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, reflecting on his Merdeka Day stint as an airasia ride driver said, “I had a really good time, and worked for over 4 hours and earned RM67 without any tips, so if I really put my back into it I could probably make between RM200 - RM250 a day which is a pretty good living. There were many customers and many interesting conversations and I enjoyed meeting new people.”

“If I have free time, I’d be happy to ask Tony to let me drive again to possibly experience the earnings and tips for good service and a good conversation.”

We’ll take your word for it Dato’ Sri and surely many Malaysians hope to get a surprise driver like you again in the future when they book their next trip on airasia ride.

Anyone who is interested in becoming an airasia ride driver can register their interest by downloading the airasia ride driver app or by visiting this page to  register.

Apart from the Klang Valley, airasia ride has expanded to Langkawi commencing  16 September and plans to launch other cities across Malaysia soon.
