AirAsia Allstars celebrate Deepavali with underprivileged children

SEPANG, 23 October 2019 - AirAsia Allstars today celebrated Deepavali at their global headquarters, RedQ, joined by 30 underprivileged children from Waja Home in Klang, Selangor. 

AirAsia Group President (Airlines) Bo Lingam, AirAsia X Malaysia CEO Benyamin Ismail and AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat welcomed the children personally and treated them to a tour of the office, followed by a banana leaf rice lunch party and sharing session featuring inspirational Allstars.

At the session, Senior First Officer Kugan Tangiisuran shared how he started in despatch in AirAsia before passing the cadet pilot exam and eventually achieving his childhood dream of becoming a pilot, while Cabin Crew Sangeetha Nadarajanabin shared her experience of providing award-winning cabin service at 35,000 feet in the air.

Benyamin Ismail said, “We are very happy to have been able to host the children from Waja Home in RedQ today as we celebrate Deepavali together with our Allstars. We hope that by visiting our office and listening to some of our inspiring staff stories, they too will be inspired to follow their dreams as our Allstars have done.” 

At the end of the visit, AirAsia pledged RM10,000 to the home to support their operations and charitable work. 

Founded in January 2008, Waja Home is a charitable organisation and home to 30 underprivileged children from families at risk, who are orphaned or slow learners, aged 3-17 years.
