AirAsia X Second Quarter 2024 Preliminary Operating Statistics
SEPANG, 24 July 2024 - AirAsia X Berhad (“AirAsia X” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce its operating statistics for the Second Quarter of 2024 (“2Q24”) today.
The Company carried a total of 880,265 passengers in 2Q24, surging 42% year-on-year ("YoY") and surpassing the 25% YoY growth in its Available Seat per Kilometre (“ASK”) Capacity. ASK Capacity recorded 4,395 million this quarter against 3,509 million in the corresponding period last year as the Company ramped up over the past 12 months to serve growing demand by reactivating aircraft to support its expanding network.
The Company’s Passenger Load Factor (“PLF”) charted a robust 83%, up by seven percentage points YoY, buoyed by peak spring travel seasons in key markets and the Eid holiday period during the quarter under review.
In terms of network, AirAsia X resumed operations to Xi’an in April, reinforcing its presence in this core market to five destinations including Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai. During the quarter under review, the Company further increased its flight frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and Bali to 14 times per week from nine times previously, catering to strong demand for the leisure favourite island.
The Company's associate, AirAsia X Thailand continued to deliver a solid PLF of 84% in 2Q24, increasing by six percentage points YoY. This growth was driven by a 17% YoY growth in the number of passengers carried for the quarter to 362,596 passengers, outperforming a 3% YoY growth in ASK Capacity of 1,870 million in 2Q24. During the period under review, AirAsia X Thailand also reported a 7% YoY increase in the number of sectors to 1,156 as more flights were launched to cater to the rising demand within the market.
AirAsia X’s total fleet size remained at 18 A330s as of 30 June 2024, with 16 aircraft now activated and operational. AirAsia X Thailand’s fleet size stood at seven A330s, with six aircraft activated and operational.
