Travel Advisory: AirAsia flights affected by Super Typhoon Mangkhut

SEPANG, 15 September 2018 - Super Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to make its closest approach to Hong Kong and the rest of the Pearl River Delta region on Sunday, 16 September 2018, with severe disruptions to scheduled flights expected this weekend.

In light of this, AirAsia is cancelling several southern China and Philippines flights on 15 September 2018.

AirAsia is also cancelling all flights scheduled to arrive in or depart from Hong Kong (HKG), Macao (MFM), Guangzhou (CAN), Shenzhen (SZX) and Shantou (SWA) between 02:00 and 23:59 (GMT +8) on 16 September 2018.

We will be contacting all affected guests directly to provide flight rearrangements.

Service disruption is expected to continue through to 17 September 2018 and we continue to work with airport authorities to understand our ability to operate. Further updates will be provided as soon as we are able.

Other guests travelling to/from Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shantou between 15 and 18 September 2018 who wish to change their travel plans may also choose one of the following service recovery options:

  1. Move flight: One-time flight change to a new travel date on the same route within 30 calendar days from original flight time without additional cost, subject to seat availability; OR

  2. Change destination: One-time change to any other international destination within the AirAsia network within 30 calendar days of the original travel date without change fee, subject to fare difference and seat availability; OR

  3. Credit account: Retain the value of your fare in your AirAsia BIG Loyalty account for future travel with AirAsia. The online credit account is to be redeemed for booking within 90 calendar days from the issuance date for your travel with us. The actual travel dates can be after the expiry date as long as our flight schedule is out; OR

  4. Full refund: Obtain a full refund to your original payment method for the amount equivalent to your booking if flights are cancelled.

Guests who wish to move flight or change destination are required to provide a new flight date and time as well as passenger name(s) to our Customer Support team via Twitter (@AirAsiaSupport), Facebook (@AirAsiaSupport), WeChat or Live Chat at support.airasia.com.

To request for a credit account, fill in an eForm:

  1. Click on the Email Us tab on the right panel

  2. Select Enquiry / Request under Type of Feedback

  3. Select Booking under Sub Category 1

  4. Select Typhoon Mangkhut for Sub Category 2

  5. Type in your option under Subject: “Typhoon Mangkhut Credit Account

  6. Complete the remaining form fields and click Submit to proceed

To request for a full refund for flight cancelled, fill in an eForm:
