Setting up in the North

Mobilising its manpower in Penang, a small team of airasia Allstars (consisting of pilots, ground staff and executives) hit the streets of Penang in early April to introduce a new food delivery solution to the local F&B operators. 

AirAsia Guest Service Assistant Lee Lay Chen who is based in Penang, joins the airasia food team to recruit Penang merchants while taking a break from managing airport operations. She said: “We are excited to see that airasia food is finally in Penang! During our visits to the local restaurants, we have received welcoming feedback on the lower commission rates that are offered by airasia food and they’re also open to try a new food delivery platform. Our team is also working closely with the merchants in introducing our digital platform, providing them assistance on uploading menus, guidance on tracking, analytics and much more. Our team is still actively recruiting and we welcome more food and beverage businesses to join airasia food. ”

Following the news of its expansion into Penang, many Penangites (which includes AirAsia pilots, cabin crew) also joined the airasia delivery team, expanding its fleet to more than 100 riders in just a month.

“We are very excited to be part of the vibrant food scene in Penang. About a year into our operations we are now present in 3 markets in 2 countries. Our launch in Penang is also in time to assist the F&B operators in overcoming MCO 3.0 by providing them with an alternative solution for food delivery. As our commission is much lower than other food delivery service providers that charge between 35% and 40%, this will especially be beneficial for the small local restaurants, hawkers and home kitchens. 

“It has always been our mission to help the local food businesses in keeping their costs low and also for more to have the accessibility to food delivery. At the moment we have also reduced our commission rates by 5% (from 15% to 10%) for two weeks beginning 15 May. ”

“While you are staying safe at home, let us deliver your favourite food to your doorstep. Currently, our deliveries are within the island and we hope to expand our delivery service to Seberang Perai in the next two to three months.”
