The all-for-one, one-for-all Allstar spirit was on high display last weekend at AirAsia X’s volunteer programme led by Chief Executive Officer Benyamin Ismail at Zoo Negara, Malaysia’s beloved national zoo. The volunteers from various departments came together for one common goal – to positively impact the experience of thousands of monthly visitors at the zoo and contribute to the preservation of the zoo’s natural habitats. This initiative, driven by AAX’s commitment to supporting the community, involved various tasks, including cleaning and upgrading the parameters and surrounding areas, painting the pathway borders, and more.
The zoo, home to a wide range of endangered species and animals from all corners of the world has long been a place where people can connect with nature and learn about the importance of wildlife conservation and as with any living space, regular maintenance and upgrades are necessary to ensure the upkeep of the area. This is where the dedicated Allstars stepped in.
Armed with tools, paintbrushes and an unwavering commitment to making a difference, the volunteers worked tirelessly to revamp the visitor area. From beautifying and painting the pathway borders to cleaning and enhancing the walkways, every task was completed with the utmost care and attention to detail.
In addition to trimming overgrown shrubs and clearing the space of any unwanted items, the team also set to work washing the pavements and raking dried leaves.
Throughout the day, the volunteers worked hand-in-hand with Zoo Negara’s staff, learning about the challenges faced by the zoo in maintaining the sprawling grounds for its roughly 50,000 monthly visitors. The handy team of Allstars contributed their efforts to close to 120 manpower hours which will go a long way towards helping the zoo community.
In the AirAsia family, compassion courses through the veins of every Allstar, a trait instilled by the company’s co-founders over two decades ago - and our volunteer efforts have also impacted some furry friends that reside within the vicinity of AirAsia’s headquarters, RedQ. AirAsia is home to three resident dogs that were saved as pups eight years ago when the building was constructed - and are aptly named AK, QZ & D7 after AirAsia airline codes. These loveable canines live in RedQ in their very own ‘DogQ’, and are cared for by a group of Allstar volunteers.
That’s not all - in the last two years, AirAsia’s animal-lovers, with the help of NGO Trap, Neuter, Release & Manage Malaysia have successfully neutered and rehomed 22 stray puppies and dogs within the area, and are on a mission to do more.
AirAsia is incredibly proud of the efforts of our Allstars and the positive impact they've made on the animals - it may seem little, but every little bit goes a long way in making their world a better place. We look forward to continuing our journey of giving back to the community and supporting purposeful initiatives, however big or small they may be.
Special thanks to the AAX volunteers for joining this eye-opening journey - it was indeed a meaningful way to wrap up the year. Here’s to a new year filled with more small contributions with great significance.
