Datuk Captain Chester Voo is the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Airline Operations) of AirAsia Aviation Group where he leads the airline operations to be aligned with the future direction of AirAsia Aviation Group. His focus will be on optimising and enhancing efficiencies across core airline functions, as well as identifying and mitigating potential risks to improve the airline’s overall performance.

Captain Chester is a well-known name in the aviation industry. A strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, he is known to be a humble and approachable leader with a keen attention to detail. In his career in aviation spanning over 30 years, he has climbed up the corporate ladder by holding various management roles.

Captain Chester began his career in aviation as a cadet pilot with Malaysia Airlines in 1993. In his career as a commercial pilot, he has flown the Boeing 737, Airbus 330 and the Airbus 320 with an accumulated 14,500 total commercial jet hours on these aircraft. In 2009, he joined AirAsia Berhad where he held various management positions that included Ground Instructor, Crew Resource Instructor, Type Rated Instructor, Type Rated Examiner, Training Manager, Chief Pilot Operations and Director of Flight Operations. 

In 2020, Captain Chester was appointed by the Minister of Transport Malaysia as the Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). With his vast experience and acumen, he is entrusted to manage the overall operations and resources of CAAM for long-term sustainability and to drive CAAM to greater heights while improving the efficiency, safety, and security of Malaysia’s civil aviation industry to a world-class standard. Throughout his tenure with CAAM, he transformed the organisation and made immense changes that have helped in the growth of the country’s aviation industry.

In February 2023, Captain Chester was appointed as CEO of Group Aviation for Berjaya Land where he led the expansion and restructuring of Berjaya Air and AsiaJet. He currently continues to serve as Independent Non-Executive Director. This is part of the company’s strategic decision where he shares his experience and expertise in a new capacity as the company embarks on a greater expansion.
