FAROUK KAMAL
Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Corporate), AirAsia Aviation Group
Farouk Kamal was appointed as Deputy Group CEO (Corporate) of AirAsia Aviation Group (AirAsia Group) on 8 January 2024, and he leads AirAsia Group’s corporate portfolio spanning Finance, Corporate Finance, Aircraft Leasing, Legal, Investor Relations, Strategy, and Sustainability with oversight of Internal Audit and Risk Management.
Farouk’s leadership has been central in positioning AirAsia Group for its next chapter of growth — disrupting global travel as the world’s first narrowbody low-cost network carrier, connecting Asean to the world and the world to Asean. He plays an active role in the proposed aviation consolidation between Capital A Berhad and AirAsia X Berhad, bringing together short- and long-haul operations while reinforcing airline economics. He also drives efforts to strengthen the balance sheet, secure sustainable funding, and build investor confidence for long-term growth.
With over 15 years of experience in investment banking and corporate finance, he has held key roles at Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan, and Credit Suisse, where he advised on numerous landmark mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and capital market transactions in Malaysia. Most recently, he served as CEO and CIO of Urusharta Jamaah, managing and rehabilitating over RM10 billion of assets.
Farouk holds an MSc in Finance and Economics and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
