Sampath Gajapathy, Technical Director, AirAsia India retires at 58

BENGALURU, 26 September 2017 – AirAsia India today announced that Mr. Sampath Gajapathy, Technical Director at AirAsia India has retired on 25 th September 2017, after a long career spanning 35 years in aviation industry. Having worked with various companies such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Jet Airways, Honeywell Aerospace, Go Airlines, Airbus, Boeing and ATR Embraer aircraft in the past, Sampath spent the last 4 years with AirAsia India before reaching his retirement age.

He completed his Bachelors in Engineering in Electronics & Communication from UVCE,
Bengaluru, and M.Tech (Aero) from IIT-Madras.

Sampath Gajapathy was instrumental in setting up the engineering department at AirAsia India
and led the induction of up to the 8 th aircraft last year. He joined AirAsia India on 1st July 2013
as the Head of Engineering and was promoted to the post of Technical Director on 1st July 2015.

Speaking about working with Sampath, Mr.Nantha Kumar, Head, Engineering, AirAsia

said, “Sampath played a key role in the fleet strategy at AirAsia India and toiled hard
towards the induction of our first few aircraft that came in until 2016. On behalf of the
engineering team that he built, I wish the vesry best!”
