GOLD COAST, 10 August 2018 – AirAsia, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline has announced its latest community partnership, the AirAsia Juraki Surf Invitational 2018, held in Fingal Head on the Northern NSW coast.

The event, now in its third year is a modern-day corroboree bringing tribes from all over Australia together in the spirit of surf and indigenous culture.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes announced the carrier’s support for the event after becoming Australia’s Official Airline of Surfing earlier this year.

Mr Fernandes said, “In 2001, we chose the Gold Coast as our very-first long haul destination and since that time the community has been welcoming us with open arms. To be able to support an event that’s not only about surfing but also ‘a sense of belonging’ in an area that was very special for us was great, and I wish Joel and his team a fantastic event.”

AirAsia Juraki Surf Invitational Director Joel Slabb said, “It’s great to have the support from AirAsia and the team at Surfing Australia. Together, we’re able to showcase both our amazing coastlines and indigenous surf culture to the world.

AirAsia’s Gold Coast Station Manager and Tweed local, Logan Mana-Howe will also compete in the Pacific Team Challenge as part of the weekend event.

AirAsia supports a number of community based events as part of its surfing partnership including the Sunsmart School Surfing program in Perth and the Australian board rider’s battle.
