AirAsia and zer0hunger.org join forces to support the Orang Asli community through airasia grocer

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 OCTOBER - Following the success of the recently launched Kita Jaga Kita value packs which provided hundreds of underprivileged children with access to nutritious meals, AirAsia has further strengthened its collaboration with zer0hunger.org, a Sustainable Social Impact Action Platform, to support the local Orang Asli community, with a visit to Kampung Orang Asli, Sungai Gabai Hulu Langat, Selangor on 17 October 2021.

The visit to the Kampung Orang Asli was headed by Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Limited, Joanna Ibrahim, CEO of airasia farm and Lim Ben-Jie, Head of e-Commerce for airasia Super App, together with Zer0Hunger.

The aim for the AirAsia village adoption initiative is to provide nutrition, health and food access to lower income urban and rural communities. A medical camp was also conducted during this visit by volunteer doctors.

Health professionals from UM Specialist Centre provided medical check-ups for the local community, while the airasia grocer team donated more than 70 Kita Jaga Kita Value Packs and Limited Edition Kids Value Packs to help support the deserving community. AirAsia Allstars also conducted activities and shared goodness bars (specially made by Allstars volunteers) with the children to help encourage them to dare to dream, which is one of the core values at AirAsia.

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Limited said, “Serving the underserved has always underpinned the AirAsia brand. We hope that this collaboration with Zer0hunger helps to shine a light on the Orang Asli community which has suffered significantly from the COVID-19 situation in Malaysia. We believe that through our collective efforts, we will be able to help ease the burden of the Orang Asli community and at the same time, help some of our most deserving fellow Malaysians emerge from the pandemic stronger together.

“We feel that to help people facing hunger is about more than simply providing food. It’s about providing wellness and nourishment. That’s why we curated these special packs from airasia grocer to provide the most nutritious food possible to improve people’s health and well-being.

Nik Adina Taty Zainin, Co-Founder of Zer0Hunger said, “We need to introduce innovative ways to disseminate information on healthy practices among rural communities. Time has now come to employ practical solutions rather than theoretical ones to ensure that our children and communities remain healthy.”

“Apart from the complete ecosystem that AirAsia provides to deliver aid right to the last mile, the new initiative to provide the nutritious ‘Goodness Bars’ and healthy food packs to undernourished children is a game changer to tackle hunger and nutrition issues. “
