AirAsia Philippines receives strong backing from CFM International; sees strong growth in 2024

*The World’s Best Low-Cost Airline supports Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri’s call for more flights from Thailand to the Philippines and vice-versa

Manila, 19 September 2023 - AirAsia Philippines is looking at a solid salvo to 2024 with the recent renewal of the agreement between Capital A and long-time partner and engine provider CFM International.

CFM’s focus on improving fleet stability on site and 24/7 virtual monitoring of AirAsia’s LEAP-1A engine operation provides a crucial catalyst for AirAsia to reinstate its full fleet across the Group.

This support is crucial to AirAsia Philippines especially since the airline plans to double its fleet count in 2024 to support its planned expansion to 45 domestic and internal routes.

AirAsia Philippines Head of Communications and Public Affairs First Officer Steve Dailisan said, “The solid backing from CFM International will help us fast-track our recovery plan and expansion next year. We expect that this will also allow us to better operate our existing aircraft and the additional A321neo and A330 to service our existing and new markets here in the country and in ASEAN giving our guests a better alternative and the best value for money, whilst maintaining our world-class service.”

Capital A, AirAsia Philippines’ parent company also looks forward to capitalizing on this renewed partnership, as the airline reinstates its 204 fleet and expands to above 300 aircraft in the next five years, as it continues to connect people across ASEAN and beyond with affordable and best-value travel options.

Meanwhile, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline also supports the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) pronouncement for stronger connectivity between the Philippines and Thailand. DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista made the statement in support of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri’s request for more direct flights from Thailand to tourist destinations in the Philippines.

"As one of the leading Philippine carriers backed by a strong regional network, AirAsia Philippines remains dedicated to empowering inclusive and accessible growth across the tourism and travel sectors. Should this proposal of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri be realized, we expect the move to enable more inclusive growth across our regional destinations, and we aim to do it with the best value", Dailisan said.

“Furthermore, if AirAsia Philippines is provided with more slots as an opportunity to boost tourism, we are ready to facilitate stronger economic ties anchored on tourism and trade in the Philippines and beyond”, he furthered.

As of September 2024, AirAsia Philippines flies from the Manila International Airport to 11 domestic destinations and 12 international destinations, while maintaining its 2 domestic and 3 international flights out of Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
