AirAsia advises guests to plan ahead for year-end travel amid monsoon season
SEPANG, 2 November 2026 – AirAsia advises all guests travelling during the year-end peak travel period to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for their journeys, as increased passenger traffic and seasonal weather conditions may affect travel plans.
Malaysia’s Northeast Monsoon is expected to run from 27 October 2026 until March 2027, bringing periods of continuous heavy rain, particularly between November and January. These conditions may lead to flooding in affected areas, while thunderstorms and adverse weather may also affect flight operations. Guests are encouraged to stay informed and take the necessary precautions before travelling.
To ensure a smoother travel experience, AirAsia recommends that all guests:
Arrive at the airport early. Arrive at the airport at least three (3) hours before the scheduled departure time for international flights and two (2) hours before the scheduled departure time for domestic flights. All guests, including those travelling under group bookings, are strongly encouraged to complete self check-in via the AirAsia MOVE app or our airasia.com. Self check-in is available from 14 days up to one (1) hour before the scheduled departure time.
Check flight status before departure. Regularly check the latest flight information via AirAsia flight status page, especially 24 hours before departure and again before leaving for the airport.
Allow extra time for airport transfers. Heavy rain, flooding and traffic congestion may affect road conditions and travel times. Plan your journey to the airport accordingly. To facilitate convenient and reliable public transport access to the KLIA2, guests are encouraged to use the Express Rail Link (ERL).
Use kiosks at the airport to print baggage tags and perform self-bag drop. Counter check-in service will only be available for guests with reduced mobility, those travelling with an infant (under 24 months of age), pregnant guests, senior citizens and young guests travelling alone.
Keep contact details updated. Ensure the email address and mobile number in your booking are correct so you can receive important flight notifications and updates.
Monitor weather conditions. Guests travelling to or from destinations affected by severe weather should check local forecasts and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Prepare travel documents in advance. Ensure your passport, visa and other required travel documents are valid before departure. Malaysian passport holders travelling internationally are encouraged to download the MyNIISe or MyBorderPass app in advance to facilitate a smoother immigration clearance process at KLIA Terminal 2. Follow the relevant app instructions before travelling.
Stay informed about available travel options. In the event of a flight disruption, guests are advised to check their email for updates and available self-service options, where applicable. Guests may also follow the instructions provided or contact Bo, AirAsia’s chatbot, for further assistance.
Guests with reduced mobility may pre-book Special Assistance (Wheelchair Service) at the time of booking or via “My Bookings” tab on the AirAsia MOVE app at least four hours before the scheduled flight departure time.
Ensure cabin baggage is the right size. Each guest is only allowed one piece of cabin baggage (not larger than 56 x 36 x 23cm in dimension) and/or one laptop bag OR handbag OR small bag on board. The total permitted weight for two pieces of unchecked baggage must not exceed 7kg.
Pregnant guests are required to fill out a form at the counter before boarding. Guests who are more than 27 weeks pregnant are required to submit an approved doctor's medical certificate.
AirAsia will continue to monitor operational conditions and communicate relevant updates to affected guests through the contact details provided in their bookings.
The safety and well-being of all guests and crew remain AirAsia’s top priority. Guests are encouraged to plan ahead, stay informed and allow additional flexibility in their travel arrangements during this period.
