AirAsia celebrates new services to the city of Ipoh

IPOH, 1 October 2018 - AirAsia’s inaugural flight from Johor Bahru to Ipoh took off today, adding an exciting new destination to the airline’s extensive network.

AirAsia flight AK6082, operated by an Airbus A320 departed Senai International Airport at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport at 8:40 a.m. Guests on board the inaugural flight were greeted by Menteri Besar of Perak YAB Tuan Ahmad Faizal Bin Dato’ Azumu, State Finance Officer Dato' Abu Bakar bin Haji Said, State Tourism, Arts and Cultural Committee Chairman YB Tan Kar Hing, Tourism Perak CEO Zuraida Md Taib, Tourism Malaysia Perak State Director Mohd Roslan Abdullah, Malaysia Airports Acting Group CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, AirAsia Group Berhad Board of Director Dato’ Aziz Bakar and AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat.

Menteri Besar of Perak YAB Tuan Ahmad Faizal Bin Dato’ Azumu said, “The state government is truly excited to welcome new visitors to Perak and I would like to applaud AirAsia for launching the route. We have no doubt that AirAsia’s four times weekly direct services will further boost the number of visitors to the state and contribute significantly to the state’s economy. Looking ahead, the state government is setting up Perak Tourism Action Council (PTAC). Among the first tasks for PTAC is to come up with a masterplan to drive the state’s tourism sector. This includes the rebranding of the state’s tourism, including Ipoh, to lure more domestic and foreign visitors. We have full confidence in AirAsia to play its part as our strategic partner to further promote Perak.”

AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said, “We are delighted to launch direct services to Ipoh, a long-anticipated addition to our route network. The launch of this new service is a testament to our continuous effort to extend our reach domestically. We have been aggressively expanding our network from Johor Bahru to enable more people to fly from and to this charming city. In addition to Johor Bahru - Ipoh services, we have also commenced direct flights from Johor Bahru to Alor Setar today. We are confident both Ipoh and Alor Setar will be extremely popular destinations for business and leisure travellers.”

Ipoh marks AirAsia Malaysia’s (flight code AK) 17th domestic destination and the 16th route from Johor Bahru hub. In addition to Ipoh, AirAsia also flies from Johor Bahru to Bangkok, Jakarta, Surabaya, Ho Chi Minh City, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Alor Setar.
