AirAsia inaugurates new Philippines - Japan route

MANILA, 1 July 2019 – AirAsia, the world’s best low cost airline today operated the first of its daily flights between Manila, Philippines and Osaka, Japan. 

AirAsia flight Z2 188 was captained by AirAsia Philippines President and CEO Dexter Comendador.

AirAsia Philippines President and CEO Dexter Comendador said, “We are excited to celebrate this milestone, adding Japan to our fast-growing network. This new route will pave the way for us to connect and promote more of the Philippines wonderful tourist attractions in Japan.

“Japan is one of the Philippines top inbound tourism markets with 57,724 arrivals recorded in the first quarter of this year. The new route will enhance bilateral connections and put the Philippines front and centre to millions of Japanese tourists.”

Located in the Kansai region, Osaka is Japan's third largest city and has a number of tourist attractions such as the historical Osaka Castle, Sumiyoshi Taisha and Shitenno-ji temple.

Osaka is also a family destination with amusement parks such as Universal Studios Japan and the Legoland Discovery Centre. Dubbed the ‘Nation’s Kitchen’, a visit to the city is not complete without trying popular dishes Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and Kushikatsu.

AirAsia now flies to 13 international destinations from Manila to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Bali, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Kaohsiung and Seoul.
