AirAsia RedRun debuts in Penang with over 4,000 runners nationwide
PENANG, 28 September 2025 – AirAsia today successfully hosted its much-anticipated RedRun community event in Penang for the very first time supported by Penang Global Tourism. The run attracted over 4,000 participants from across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and other regions who came together at Gurney Plaza. Following successful editions in Bali, Surabaya and most recently in Singapore, Penang was chosen as the RedRun destination for its vibrant community spirit and reputation as a leading tourist hub, marking another milestone in the Group’s RedRun series.
AirAsia RedRun in Penang featured 3KM, 5KM and 10KM race categories, welcoming participants of all ages and fitness levels. The Penang community formed the largest turnout with 32% of total runners, followed by Kedah and Perak, underscoring the strong support from the northern region. Many participants travelled from across Malaysia to be part of this much-anticipated debut, with close to 28% more joining us from international destinations, underscoring the event’s growing significance both locally and internationally.
The event was graced by the presence of YB Tuan Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, together with Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, and Amanda Woo, Chief Commercial Officer of AirAsia Aviation Group, who jointly officiated the flag-off for the 10KM race category.
The Penang edition of RedRun reflects AirAsia’s continued efforts to bring communities together while encouraging healthy lifestyles in some of the region’s most exciting cities.
