AirAsia reinforces safety standards following completion of drug screening for active crew

All of active crew screened with 100% returning negative results, as part of AirAsia’s longstanding fit-to-fly and safety protocols

SEPANG, 14 September 2026 - The airlines under AirAsia Group (formerly known as AirAsia X Berhad), namely AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) and AirAsia X Malaysia (flight code D7) have completed its drug screening exercise for active operating crew, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to safety, security and the highest standards of fitness for duty.

The screening covered all of AirAsia and AirAsia X Malaysia’s active operating crew, comprising pilots and cabin crew across the Group, with 100% of the results returning negative.

Captain Suresh Bangah, Group Chief Operations Officer of AirAsia Group, said: “Safety and security are fundamental to everything we do at AirAsia and we have zero tolerance for drug use. All pilots and cabin crew are subject to stringent fit-to-fly requirements, including regular drug and alcohol testing, as part of the Group’s established safety framework. This ensures that our operating crew are fit to perform their duties safely and professionally. 

“We will continue to uphold these rigorous standards across our operations, in line with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.”
