KUALA LUMPUR, 15 May 2020 – The Ormond Group and AirAsia today expressed its gratitude to Hospital Kuala Lumpur frontline workers who have been working selflessly to keep Malaysians safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

AirAsia is offering a complimentary flight to selected domestic destinations in Peninsular Malaysia, joining the Ormond Group which have offered free stays for HKL frontliners, in a gesture of thanks and appreciation.

“In the spirit of #InThisTogether, we are proud to join forces with the Ormond Group and extend a complimentary flight to a selected domestic destination in Peninsular Malaysia to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur frontline workers. All of them have been the country’s heroes throughout this pandemic outbreak, and this is just our small way of saying thank you,” said Karen Chan, CEO of airasia.com

This comes as the group concluded their support of health care workers at Tune Hotels PWTC, where it housed 200 Hospital Kuala Lumpur staff at the frontlines of COVID-19 for the last 45 days, for a total of 4531 room nights, sponsored by its charity associate, the ECM Libra Foundation.

The ECM Libra Foundation, funded by the two major shareholders of the Ormond Group, has also been involved in easing front-liners’ woes by funding purchase of PPEs and ventilators. It has also financially supported food packages for marginalized Orang Asli communities in Pahang & urban poor, migrant workers and refugees in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

The Ormond Group will extend a complimentary one-night stay to these same health care workers at their flagship property The Chow Kit – An Ormond Hotel, which was named one of the world’s best new hotels in 2020 by Travel + Leisure magazine. In addition, the group will also extend a 30% discount to ALL healthcare workers, PDRM and the army involved in the COVID-19 fight for a stay at any of the hotels within the group.

“We owe them a debt of gratitude; this is only a small gesture to show our appreciation,” said Gareth Lim, CEO of Ormond Group.
