Unbeatable AirAsia deals await travellers as Singapore & Thailand jointly announce Vaccinated Travel Lanes

SINGAPORE, 15 December 2021 - AirAsia has expressed its full support towards the announcement by the governments of Singapore and Thailand for the commencement of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between the two countries paving the way for the resumption of flight services on one of the busiest  routes in the world. AirAsia will be resuming flights between Changi Airport (Terminal 1) and Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok beginning 29 December 2021.

To start the resumption of VTL travel, AirAsia will operate three weekly return flights  between Singapore and Bangkok. More routes from other cities in Thailand will be added and frequencies increased accordingly as  travel demand grows in line with the reopening of more leisure destinations in the near future, subject to approval from the authorities.

AirAsia will operate designated VTL flights according to the following schedules:

Guests can book their flights to Thailand from just SGD85 one way for travel between 29 December 2021 to 29 October 2022 through the ‘Flights’ icon on the airasia Super App. Guests can secure great value flights+hotel deals of up to 30% off through the ‘SNAP’ icon on the Super App, or book their hotels separately under the “Hotels” icon with savings up to 20% off using the promo code HAPPY20 from now until 20 December 2021. Guests can also look forward to 10% off Hot Seats booking, while Travel Pass insurance with Covid-19 coverage will be available as well.

Fully vaccinated travellers from Singapore who wish to travel to Thailand must meet the travel requirements set by the Thailand Government prior to purchasing their flights and upon arrival.

Mr. Santisuk Klongchaiya, CEO of Thai AirAsia, explained that Singapore has relaxed its travel protocols to allow fully vaccinated travelers to enter without the need to quarantine, allowing AirAsia to bring its popular direct "Don Mueang-Singapore" flights back into service in time for the peak end of year travel season and the New Year celebrations.  With Singapore being a top destination, the route is expected to be a huge boon to the tourism industries and economies of both nations.

"We are very excited to be flying direct to Singapore once again as Singapore is only a convenient 2 and a half hours away and is one of the world's most vaccinated countries, making it a very attractive destination for everyone who has been waiting to travel."

Mr. Joe Choo, Area Director Thailand, Singapore Tourism Board said, “Singapore is ready to welcome visitors via the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with the necessary safety and hygiene standards in place. Thailand is one of Singapore’s key source markets and we are glad to see the resumption of AirAsia flights between Singapore and Thailand. AirAsia remains an important partner for us on our path towards recovery of the tourism industry. We are excited to welcome Thai travellers back to Singapore to experience our new and reimagined offerings.”

AirAsia has spent the period of downtime in flights over the past 18 months to further enhance and revamp its flight procedures and processes. In the highest interest of safety and wellbeing for all its guests and employees, only fully-vaccinated cabin crew and ground staff will operate flights and be on-duty at airport terminals. Furthermore, AirAsia assures the highest safety standards are in place as part of its robust Covid-19 mitigation plan including by accepting only fully-vaccinated guests onboard, making it mandatory to check-in via the airasia Super App, and rolling out the FACES facial recognition boarding system that will make the entire travel journey fully digital and contactless.

Despite the flight hibernation for a good part of the past 18 months, all AirAsia’s aircraft are properly maintained according to procedures set by the manufacturer. AirAsia has set up an in-house maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) unit called Asia Digital Engineering that provides services not only to AirAsia but also other airlines. Moreover, all its pilots and cabin crew are regularly trained for mandatory refresher courses and ongoing retraining so that they are on top of their job.
