AirAsia pledges relief support for Malaysia’s east coast states

SEPANG, 29 November 2017 - AirAsia announced that it will support flood relief efforts in Malaysia’s East Coast states; Kelantan and Terengganu, by offering assistance to Non-Profit Organisations and medical personnel who require air transport assistance to travel to affected areas.

Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, Executive Chairman of AirAsia Berhad and AirAsia X Group CEO said, “Our thoughts are with the community in Kelantan and Terengganu who are dealing with the challenging conditions due to adverse change of weather. We are once again working with NGOs to quickly bring recovery and relief efforts to those residents hardest hit by this flood and to ensure people are cared for, and help them with the recovery process.”

“We are always here to lend a helping hand in such unfortunate circumstances and strive to provide assistance in any way we can in the most immediate way possible,” he added.

Relief aid agencies requiring air transport support for relief items are welcomed to send in their request to foundation@airasia.com, where instructions on delivery and cargo requirements will be provided after evaluation.

Medical Personnel on Duty who are required to be in Kelantan and Terengganu can also send in their request to foundation@airasia.com for flight purposes.

Earlier this month, AirAsia supported four relief aid missions to Penang which was also affected by severe floods. The organisations, namely IMAM Response and Relief Team (IMARET), INSAF, and IKRAM Health, set up mobile clinics and distributed food, medicines and hygiene kits to over a thousand people in affected areas. The medical relief teams also provided urgent medical treatment and psychosocial support to flood victims.
