AirAsia becomes first airline to connect Malaysia and Phu Quoc, Vietnam

PHU QUOC, 2 November 2018 - AirAsia has become the first airline to connect Malaysia to Phu Quoc, Vietnam with the arrival of the inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Phu Quoc flight here today, further strengthening the airline’s Asean connectivity.

AirAsia Flight AK545, utilising an Airbus A320, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) at 12.50pm with a 90% passenger load factor and arrived at Phu Quoc International Airport at 1.35pm. Guests onboard were greeted by Phu Quoc People's Committee Vice Chairman Pham Van Nghiep and local authorities upon arrival.

AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said, “We’re proud to be the first airline to connect Malaysia to Phu Quoc, yet another unique route pioneered by AirAsia. It is encouraging to see how well the destination has been well-received, and we hope this direct service, in tandem with Phu Quoc’s visa-free policy, will accelerate international arrivals to the island and boost tourism receipts.”

AirAsia flies from Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc four times weekly. Guests flying from elsewhere in AirAsia’s extensive network - including China, India, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore - can also connect seamlessly to Phu Quoc using the Fly-Thru transit service via Kuala Lumpur. Travellers from any country may visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days.

Phu Quoc is AirAsia Malaysia’s fifth route into Vietnam. Besides Phu Quoc, AirAsia also flies to four other destinations in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi and Nha Trang.
