AirAsia wins World’s Leading Low Cost Airline for 9th year running at World Travel Awards 2021

5th consecutive year for World’s Leading Low Cost Airline Cabin Crew

SEPANG, 17 December 2021 – AirAsia has once again been awarded World’s Leading Low Cost Airline for the ninth year in a row and World’s Leading Low Cost Airline Cabin Crew for the fifth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2021.

The WTA celebrates excellence across key sectors of travel, tourism and hospitality. Votes were counted based on recent experiences travelling, including prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Limited said, “This is truly a great way to round off another very challenging year, being awarded World’s Best Low Cost Airline for nine years and World’s Best Low Cost Cabin Crew for five years in a row.

“Even though we didn’t fly as much as we would have liked to, we thank the WTA organisers, our 600 million plus guests, peers in the industry and most importantly, our Allstars (staff), for their unwavering dedication and perseverance through what has been our most difficult year yet. Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t be any worse, 2021 really threw us even more curve balls to contend with.

“Finally we see blue skies ahead as the world starts to reopen, thanks to vaccines, better testing, education, travel bubbles and global health passports.

“Innovation, value and choice underpin our brand and one thing that stands true for AirAsia - we never waste a crisis. We have spent the downtime in flying over the past 20 months, putting in place a robust model for the future and implementing many innovations to make flying not only safe and affordable, but more hygienic and contactless than ever before.

“After nearly two years of setbacks due to the pandemic, we really look forward to welcoming the new year in and making a huge difference in 2022. We believe our airlines will return stronger than ever as we continue to focus on delivering the very best in terms of safe, affordable and reliable air travel with great friendly service, across the Asia Pacific region.”

Suhaila Hassan, AirAsia Group Head of Cabin Crew said, Despite the unprecedented challenges faced by the aviation industry again this year, AirAsia continues to focus on being best in class when it comes to customer service excellence. We are truly humbled to receive this award yet again and will continue to focus on striving even higher in 2022 to ensure guests are not only safe and comfortable but always have the best inflight experience possible.”

Graham E. Cooke, Founder, World Travel Awards, said: “Congratulations to AirAsia for being voted ‘World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2021’ and ‘World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crew 2021’. The team’s passion for raising service standards has shone through in 2021, and I am delighted that this has been acknowledged by both the travel trade and the general public.

“Despite the continued challenges, WTA saw that the voters still voted in high numbers, indicating loyal customer support towards our 2021 winners. Due to the nature of the ongoing global pandemic, some countries and organisations continued to face a challenging 2021, yet the voters still voted in volumes, based on past experiences, merit and brand loyalty.”

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards, one of the most prestigious and note-worthy awards programmes in the global and tourism industry, acknowledges and celebrates excellence across key sectors of travel, tourism and hospitality.
