If there’s one thing Malaysians are known for, it’s for our spirit of togetherness. Nothing can tear us apart, not even a pandemic and true to its form, the country united once again. On 16 September 2022, to mark the nation's 49th Malaysia Day, throngs of excited citizens partook in the 4th annual Keretapi Sarong event in the Klang Valley and AirAsia was there every step of the way.

A little over 21 years ago, history was about to be made by two gentlemen from the music industry who would go on to revolutionise the aviation industry in Asia. Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun bought AirAsia for a mere RM1 on 8 September 21 years ago, when it was RM40 million in debt and in the course of two decades, transformed it to the tech and lifestyle giant that it is today.

With unwavering spirits and determined grit, AirAsia continues its mission to connect travellers from near and far to their loved ones this Merdeka. In spite of the many challenges faced in the last few years, we’ve united as a community and come back stronger and steadier! 31 August 2022 marks Malaysia’s 65th National day — a day celebrated with much grandeur and glory all over the country. In conjunction with Merdeka, AirAsia brought the patriotic spirits to the skies with a Merdeka Day activation for guests on board flight AK5748 from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau. Excited guests onboard the flight were handed ‘Jalur Gemilang’ flags and partook in a series of friendly mini quizzes on all-things-Malaysia. The lucky go-ers were also treated with gifts and merchandise courtesy of AirAsia.

In the lead up to the harvest festivals in East Malaysia, two AirAsia Allstars surprised guests onboard flight AK 5136 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu and flight AK 5651 from Kuala Lumpur to Miri by donning traditional attire and serenading the awed guests with traditional dance performances onboard.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when three Allstars were reunited with their families during a Majlis Berbuka Puasa & Solat Tarawih event held at AirAsia’s headquarters, RedQ on 21 April 2022.
