Nadda Buranasiri, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, said Japan is a strategic market for Thai AirAsia X and has been peforming really well. Even with flights across all regions of the country, Thai AirAsia X has continued to seek out new routes to offer new experiences to Thai travellers and attract more Japanese visitors to the Thai Kingdom. Thai AirAsia X has been flying to Japan for close to 5 years now, beginning with Tokyo and Osaka. The carrier then added Sapporo and Nagoya last year and now Fukuoka as its 5th route. The addition makes Thai AirAsia X the Thai low-fare carrier with the most routes to Japan.
“We thank all of our passengers for trusting us and giving Thai AirAsia X the opportunity to expand its network to so many more destinations. In Japan, AirAsia is increasingly recognised and reliable among Japanese travellers as affirmed by the 63 percent year-on-year growth in our proportion of Japanese passengers in 2018. We attribute such improvements to our addition to Sapporo and Nagoya last year. We still see much growth potential in the Japanese market and are hopeful that Fukuoka will further bolster tourism and the economies of both Thailand and Japan,” Mr. Nadda said.
Thai AirAsia X recognises the city of Fukuoka in Fukuoka prefecture as a high potential destination as it is the largest city on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan and a hub of culture, cuisine and natural tourism destinations. With shopping attractions such as Canal City Takata and Kawabatadori Shopping Street, it is easy to see why British media once placed Fukuoka among the top 10 cities to live in the world.
Fukuoka is also popular for its temples and shrines, which include Kyushu’s sacred Nanzoin Temple, home to an impressively large reclining Buddha statue; Tochoji Temple, one of the country’s oldest religious sites; Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kushida Shrine. Many more attractions stand across Kyushu island within reach from Fukuoka, including the cat island of Enoshima, the cruises of Yanagawa River, the hot springs of Beppu and Yufuin as well as the wisteria flowers of Kawachi Fujien that bloom between April and May. Further in the Kyushu island are other interesting areas to visit such as Oita, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Miyasaki. Altogether, these destinations make Fukuoka a very worthwhile visit.
Thai AirAsia X flies to 9 cities in 4 countries (including to Fukuoka) with direct flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) to Seoul of South Korea; Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya and Fukuoka of Japan; Shang Hai and Tianjin of China and Brisbane of Australia. The airline operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A330-300 aircraft and has plans to acquire more Airbus A330 neo planes this year to further extend its service.
