AirAsia Malaysia (AK) secures second consecutive three-year Air Operator Certificate (AOC) approval from CAAM through 2029
Second consecutive three-year AOC renewal underscores AK’s continued commitment to meeting and exceeding stringent regulatory standards
The AOC renewal comes amid another landmark year for AirAsia, following its 17th consecutive Skytrax World’s Best Low-Cost Airline title
SEPANG, 21 September 2026 – AirAsia Malaysia (airline code AK) has successfully renewed its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) - with the renewed certificate valid until 30 September 2029.
The renewal follows CAAM’s stringent regulatory assessment of AirAsia Malaysia’s continued compliance with the requirements governing commercial air transport operations, reinforcing the airline’s standing within Malaysia’s established aviation regulatory framework. It also reflects the airline’s continued commitment to maintaining rigorous operational standards as it grows and optimises its fleet and network.
AirAsia Malaysia remains AirAsia Group’s largest and strongest business, with additional aircraft expected to be deployed in the market as it strengthens its domestic and regional network and transitions towards a more efficient narrowbody fleet. With a 61% share of Malaysia’s domestic market by capacity and accounting for 34% of flights at KUL, AirAsia is a key contributor to Kuala Lumpur’s connectivity, with KUL retaining its position as the world’s No. 1 low-cost megahub, as well as the world’s fourth most connected international megahub and No. 1 in Asia Pacific, according to OAG’s 2026 Megahubs Index.
Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, General Manager of AirAsia Malaysia said: “The renewal of our Air Operator Certificate reflects our continued commitment to not only meeting, but exceeding the regulatory, operational and safety standards required of us as an airline operating in Malaysia. As we move forward, we remain focused on operating safely & efficiently, optimising our fleet and network whilst continuing to provide affordable connectivity for millions of travellers across Malaysia and the region.”
The renewal comes at a significant milestone for AirAsia, which has once again been recognised by travellers worldwide as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the 17th consecutive year at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards held in London last Friday. The latest win extends AirAsia’s record of consecutive victories in the category and comes as the airline marks 25 years of making air travel more accessible and affordable.
Currently, AirAsia Malaysia operates 1,620 flights a week to 15 domestic destinations and 73 international destinations across 22 countries, connecting travellers from Malaysia to key markets across Asean, Asia, Australia and beyond.
With its renewed AOC, extensive domestic and international network, and continued recognition by travellers globally, AirAsia Malaysia remains focused on strengthening connectivity, supporting Malaysia’s aviation and tourism ecosystem and making air travel more accessible to millions of travellers.
