AirAsia strengthens its position as people’s choice carrier between Malaysia and Indonesia with Kuala Lumpur–Batam Flights
SEPANG, 19 January 2026 – AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) today strengthened its position as the people’s choice carrier between Malaysia and Indonesia with the launch of a direct Kuala Lumpur–Batam flight, enhancing cross-border connectivity and making travel between the two nations more convenient.
The new route marks a significant milestone, expanding AirAsia’s network to 19 routes and carrying nearly three million guests between Malaysia and Indonesia in 2025. This growth underscores AirAsia’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and strengthening ties between the two neighbouring nations.
In 2025, Batam Municipality welcomed over 120,000 international tourist visits, with Malaysian travellers among the top visitors, contributing 23% of the total. With the introduction of this new route, AirAsia expects the number of Malaysian visitors to Batam to rise further, boosting tourism and economic exchange between the two countries. This new route will also support the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, which aims to attract 4.6 million Indonesian tourists, as well as Indonesia’s target of welcoming up to 17 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2026.

The routes will begin with daily flights operating starting 13 March 2026, Kuala Lumpur to Batam with promotional fares starts from RM199 all-in one-way* while Batam to Kuala Lumpur starts from IDR899,000 all-in one-way*. The special fares are available for booking from today until 1 February 2026 for travel between 13 March 2026 and 24 October 2026, exclusively on the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com.
